I am what the Life Purpose Institute calls a "Rainbow Person" – someone with lots of different interests.
During that time, I became a professional photographer, doing headshots for actors and covering events for the Art Directors Club and the American Marketing Association. My photos appeared in several industry magazines, including the "Marketing Review," "Advertising Age" and "Print," and I was fortunate to have one of my "artistic" pieces chosen for the first "Best of Photography Annual." I also began honing my computer skills, which later blossomed into desktop publishing, graphics and web design. I began writing some short stories and articles, some of which appeared in magazines and local newspapers. In 1990, my friend, Maria Ciaccia, also a writer, suggested that we start our own publishing company to get our work into print, and Excalibur Publishing was born. Through 2006, we published and sold 14 titles, including some of our own books. My first book, "Alpha, Beta & Gamma," included illustrations that I did on my trusty Macintosh, and I contributed to our series of original monologues, "By Actors, For Actors." My second solo book, "Managing With A Heart: 222 Ways To Make Your Employees Feel Appreciated," was picked up by a fast-growing publisher called Sourcebooks, has been translated into several languages and is used as a resource in college business classes. The third edition is now available as an e-book. I also contributed to "My First Book Sale," published by Blue Island Publications, and more recently wrote and published three e-books, "The Tortoise Workbook: Strategies for Getting Ahead at Your Own Pace," "Self-Publishing Basics," and "Tips for Tortoises: Getting Ahead at Your Own Pace." My books and audios are now available through my new publishing company, Good Life Press, and my e-newsletter, "Living the Creative Life," continues to reach creative people all over the world. As a publisher, I also got to develop my editorial skills. One of the books I edited, "Practical Parenting for the 21st Century," was a finalist for the Benjamin Franklin Award. I went on to edit books and articles for Allworth Press, Heineman, Food Arts magazine and several corporate clients. As if I didn't have enough to do, I decided in 1997 that I wanted to become a Life Coach, so that I could make a direct positive contribution to people's lives, individually and in groups, and I began coaching and leading workshops and teleclasses. In 1999, I added to my skills by completing The Life Purpose Process© certification course with Fern Gorin, M.A. and the Life Purpose Institute. In 2005, I earned a certificate in Adult Career Planning and Development at New York University. As a workshop leader, I have led teleclasses for the Virtual Reality Self-Help Center, WriteDirections.com and Teleclass.com, and have been leading career, life skills and publishing workshops for the 92nd Street Y , Bronxville Adult School, Makor/Steinhardt Center, the Learning Annex, the Career Change Network, WorkTalk, Axxess Business Centers, the International Coach Federation/NYC Chapter, the Independent Business Womens Circle, the International Facility Management Association, Friends of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, the Network of Enterprising Women, Manhattan Plaza Social Services and other venues, as well as leading monthly coaching groups. In the fall of 2004, I expanded my teaching to include training coaches for the Life Purpose Institute, and in fall of 2005 as an adjunct instructor in the Coaching certificate program at New York University - School of Continuing and Professional Studies. I have also been a guest lecturer at Columbia University and the Fashion Institute of Technology, and I've mentored college students through Hofstra's Career Alumni Advisor Network. And I am excited to be an Affiliated Coach with Vocation Vacations! I have enjoyed being interviewed for radio programs and magazine articles (see below) and have made two appearances on Manhattan Neighborhood Network cable TV, as host of "Access for All," where I interviewed Nancy Rubin Stuart, author of "American Empress: The Life and Times of Marjorie Merriweather Post," and as guest coach on " Life Coach TV" and "Life Coach Radio" with Dr. Marianna Lead. I am honored to be a former Director of the New York City chapter of the International Coach Federation. I've also had the good fortune to be included in several Who's Who books, including "Great Women of the 21st Century," "2000 Notable American Women," "Empire Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry" and "Oxford Who's Who Annual Registry." That's it so far, but I have a feeling that a few more chapters will be added to this book!
